Do you want to know what is a Reiki Session and how it is performed? This is the article for you!
What is Reiki?
The word Reiki comes from REI which means universal energy and KI life force. The universal energy is around us and is also in plants, animals, nature, represents life and, most interestingly, is inexhaustible. The vital force is the energy that we have individually and that circulates through the whole organism maintaining its functions.
The human being has not only the physical body but also the emotional body and the mental body. These three bodies are moved by the vital force.
When there is a problem, a concern or a restlessness, this activity is directing the three bodies: we think about the problem, this, in turn, awakens some emotion and can affect the physical body and cause a contracture, for example.
Reiki is one of the few therapies that can act on all three bodies.
When a session is carried out, no objectives are set, nor subjects to touch.
The therapist is neutral and lets the energy flow through the channels and reach the palm of his hands.
The energy the person receives is neutral and acts on the person depending on their own needs.
How is a Reiki Session?
During a Reiki treatment, the energy flows through the hands of the therapist to the patient.
Normally the patient is lying on a bed with clothes on, although a Reiki treatment can also be received sitting or standing.
The Reiki Master places his hands in different positions near different areas of the patient's body, corresponding to the main Chakras. Each hand position is held for three to five minutes. The placement of the therapist's hands should not be inappropriate or exert any kind of pressure.
During a treatment, you feel a deep relaxation, a great sense of peace. Many people fall asleep, which has no influence on the final result, some feel a tingling, heat or cold in different parts of the body as the energy flows, other people see colors, experience a feeling of "floating" or feel emotions that come to the surface and others simply do not feel anything, in this case Reiki will be working at more subtle levels.
It increases your energy and your mood, giving you a more positive outlook on life.
Past stressful situations don't seem to worry you as they used to.
Many patients after receiving their first sessions experience changes that can be annoying. It is common that in the days following the session you may have feelings of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat or just spend a week angry or feelings come to the surface. Then this person thinks that Reiki has gone badly and that it is worse than before the start of the sessions. This is called a Healing Crisis.
What do we call a Healing Crisis?
A healing crisis is a process that is activated in our being, through which our physical body releases toxins accumulated in our organs and our mental-emotional body releases emotions or reveals patterns of thought that are harmful to us. This is what we call a healing crisis.
Mental-emotional symptoms that we may experience during a Healing Crisis are:
- Anger
- Sadness
- Fear
- Hate
- Anxiety
Physical symptoms we may experience during a Healing Crisis:
- Increased sweating
- Increased urination
- Increased bowel movements
- Rashes
- Vomiting
- Cold or flu symptoms
- Headaches
- Fever
- Past pains
Each person responds to treatment in a different way. In general, in order to suffer a healing crisis, it is necessary to carry out a treatment of several sessions where the person cleanses himself thoroughly of the blockages.
The longer a Reiki treatment is, the more complete and lasting its effects will be. More results can be achieved with the combination of Reiki with Sacred Plants. For this reason I use:
- Rapé
- Sananga
A session, for example, acts on the consequences and solves specific problems; on the contrary, the Reiki applied in a planned and unhurried way is oriented towards the cause of the ills and harmonizes the individual and its globality.
In these cases, the apparent aggravation will disappear after two or three days, but it is usually convenient to carry out more sessions.
In addition, it should be borne in mind that a comprehensive treatment affects the whole body, mind and spirit.
Someone can visit a Reiki Master to be healed of an ailment and at the end of the treatment have changed completely behavior, way of thinking or way of relating to others. This is due to the emotional and mental rebalancing that Reiki produces.
Through Reiki we relive past events that are often unpleasant and produce feelings of anguish, fear, abandonment or rejection. Manifesting emotions is necessary to cleanse the soul and release it energetically, but it gives rise to those emotional crises that we call "catharsis".
When the energy triggers these traumatic phenomena also known by reiki practitioners as "removed", the patient should not be frightened and leave the session but on the contrary, reaffirm their confidence in the power of Reiki.
How long does a session last?
In order to carry out a good Reiki treatment, as we have already said, three to five minutes are dedicated to each one of the positions, which makes the session last approximately one hour. The patient will remain lying on a bed, barefoot and dressed. During the session, soft music and aromas such as incense or essences (aromatherapy) are used.
In this time there are three well marked parts: the preparation time, with a small talk between the reiki master and the patient (in this first part will be alse performed the energy cleansing), the time of imposition of the hands in the different parts of the body, the time after the imposition of hands. This time is more important, as the person usually reaches a high degree of relaxation. In the last part, there is no time, it depends on the person.
How many sessions will we need?
The essential part is not the number of sessions, but how the person feels in each of the sessions. The work that is done is very subtle and many things can be removed, some of them that have been kept for a long time.
As the person feels as he feels, the visits are adjusted; one a month, one every two weeks, one every week.
In addition, with the following sessions, you can also work deeper with the help of special meditations of the Shamanic Reiki lineage, crystal therapy, pendulum, tarots, sacred plants, music therapy. All these practices are performed here in Berlin, at Reiki Shamanic Healing.
Is the location of the Reiki treatment important?
You have to make sure that the place where the Reiki treatment is going to be carried out has good vibrations.
The room should not be too cold or too hot, it should be painted with soft colors, order and cleanliness should prevail, otherwise, bad vibrations and negative energy will accumulate.
It is advisable to use incense or mild aromatic essences and relaxing music that will help the patient to be more receptive.
What does Reiki feel like?
What you feel during the Reiki treatment changes a lot from one person to another, it is very subjective.
Some people notice the therapist's hands very hot and sometimes very cool.
Most people who receive a Reiki treatment feel very comforted, relieved of tension and very relaxed. The benefits that are received with Reiki are cumulative, that is to say, that perhaps during the first session nothing was noticed but for sure that in the following sessions you will perceive new and very pleasant sensations.
Does Reiki treatment interfere with other medical treatments?
Not at all. Reiki treatment is safe and can be compatible with any type of medical care you are receiving.
More and more hospitals are applying Reiki treatment to their patients, which shows us that Reiki is effective and highly recommended.

That’s interesting that it would be relaxing enough for some people to fall asleep. I feel like that would mean that it wouldn’t be painful or anything. That makes me feel a bit better about the idea of trying out reiki myself.
Thanks for letting me know that I can still do Reiki even if we're just sitting or standing. I don't think I'll feel comfortable if I'll be asked to lie down during the first session. Now that I know how convenient it can be, I think it's time for me to look for places that offer Reiki healing services.
